MOSCOT - a must

24 Aug 2018 by Daphne

Miltzen, Yukel, Ezra, Nebb and the popular Lemtosh. MOSCOT originals. I had never heard of them. Until recently.

Why go into an eyewear shop if you don't need glasses? Well, if you like unique, creative and artistic, you really should. I could not believe my eyes when I walked into the MOSCOT shop at the corner of Orchard and Delancey Street in the Lower East Side.

Every time I had walked past the black and yellow MOSCOT sign, across from the Holiday Inn, I was intrigued. So one day I just walked in there without a clue as to what I would find. And stood on the doorstep for a while gawking. Until a friendly "welcome at MOSCOT, how can I help you" made me stumble "eh, I just want to take a quick look".

I must have spent half an hour looking around and almost left with a pair of "ever-so-slightly imperfect" sunglasses. This store is all about history. There are lots of photographs of the MOSCOT family, of their employees (throughout the 100 years of their existance), of fans and famous Moscot customers. Oldfashioned nicknacks are on display here and there, funny signs are written on cards and there's even a MOSCOT Music Gallery where once a month you can see and listen to livemusic. The entrance to these "Live from the shop" performances is free and if donations are asked they go directly to the "MOSCOT Mobileyes Foundation".

If you're in the Lower East Side take a look inside this cool store. It's across from the Tenement Museum. Which is also a cool place!
